The Howard County Forestry Board in partnership with the Talbot Springs Elementary School help to create an outdoor classroom with participation of the Chesapeake Bay School Reforestation Project.
In April, 2002 the Forestry Board was invited to plant trees with the students of the school. Joining with Steve Parker, the Forestry Board's Chairperson, the students learned the rules for the day.
The Chesapeake Bay Trust is an important funder of these projects. It is only with their assistance that school projects like this can go forward.
Dave Plummer, the Forester assigned to Howard County, gave the students specialized instructions and demonstrated his fine technique. Groups of students worked together to follow Dave's instructions and plant the trees.
Students gave their individual attention to the exercise. Each sapling was planted with extra care. Even the chairman of the Howard County Forestry Board was present to demonstrate the right way to plant the saplings. At the day's end, the saplings were in the ground, and a fine project was completed.
